I want to be a sports writer more anything in the world! My favorite sport is baseball and my favorite team is the Chicago Cubs. I love all the different aspects of the game; from the different coaching strategies to the bizarre statistics that record every aspect of every game. My dream job is as a baseball writer for Sports Illustrated, where my passion for sports could unite with my passion for writing. To have a good chance at being a baseball writer for Sports Illustrated, I will have to go to college for a degree in Communications, Journalism, or English. I will need to focus my energy on getting internships with magazines and newspapers during college summers in order to gain some experience with doing research, fact checking, and other intangibles of journalism. To work at a prestigious sports magazine such as Sports Illustrated, I will need to write as much as possible. I could look for work at my University’s newspaper as well as other publications around campus.
In 2006, writers made a median income of $48,640. This is more than enough money for me to survive and I would consider doing freelance writing on the side to make some extra cash. I could also look in the future for editor positions that yield higher earnings. As of now, the job market for writers is continuing to grow as fast as the average occupation through the year 2016.
